Using Scale Fingerings For Slides to Ease Into Notes

Bass sliding techniques can allow you to play and connect notes with dynamics. So, why is learning this important? This is probably what you are thinking: “If I can play the notes in a usual similar fretting manner, why do I need to slide my fingers across the strings?”

Well, the answer to this is that bass sliding allows you to sound much more fluid and gives your bass playing style another dimension of sound.

Don’t believe me? Pick up your bass guitar and play the 3rd note on the 3rd string to give you a C. While holding on to that note, slide your finger to the 15th fret of the 3rd string to give you a higher octave of C.

Note how this sounds like. Now, using the same example, hit the 3rd note on the 3rd string again, This time round, play the 5th note on the 1st sting of your bass guitar. This also gives you the same octave of C. Does this sound different? Of course, the pitch of the note played is still the same, BUT the tone of the note is different.

You can use slide techniques to fill in music as and when the situation calls for it. This gives you more dynamics and control over the sounds of your playing.
